As I sit down to write this, my heart weighs heavy with a mix of emotions—a blend of sorrow for the loss we have endured and a longing for the celebration that we cannot fully embrace. Today, I want to share with you the bittersweet journey of my baby's first Diwali—a journey marked by loss, resilience, and the enduring light of hope.
Just two weeks before Diwali, our family suffered a devastating loss—the passing of sai's grandfather. His absence cast a shadow over our hearts, leaving us grappling with grief as we tried to navigate the joyous occasion that lay ahead.
As Diwali approached, I found myself torn between conflicting emotions. On one hand, I wanted to honor the tradition and spirit of the festival—to light lamps, share sweets, and bask in the warmth of family and community. But on the other hand, the weight of our loss felt too heavy to bear, casting a pall over what should have been a time of celebration.
For my baby, who was experiencing their first Diwali, this dichotomy was especially poignant. Unable to fully comprehend the complexities of loss and grief, they remained a beacon of innocence and light—a reminder of the hope that still flickered within our hearts.
And amidst the somber moments, there were glimpses of joy—tiny sparks of light that illuminated the darkness and reminded us of the resilience of the human spirit. My baby, with their infectious laughter and curious eyes, became a source of comfort and solace—a reminder that life, with all its ups and downs, is a precious gift to be cherished and celebrated.
Though my baby may not remember this first Diwali, marked by loss and longing, I hope that they will carry with them the lessons learned—that even in the darkest of times, there is light to be found, and that love, in all its forms, has the power to transcend even the greatest of sorrows.
As we bid farewell to Diwali and look ahead to brighter days, I am filled with a sense of gratitude—for the love that surrounds us, for the memories that sustain us, and for the enduring light of hope that guides us through even the darkest of nights.
